MAKING SENSE

OF YOUR

AUTISTIC

RELATIONSHIP

Are you wondering what life would be like if you could feel more fulfilled in your marriage?

Hello! I’m Amy

I literally moved 1,250 miles, quit my job, sold my house, left everyone and everything to marry my husband whom I loved so much.

At my reception, I felt like I had married a stranger. The honeymoon felt foreign with no physical intimacy, and our marriage continued this way for 13 years. My marriage was painful and confusing, and full of numerous failed attempts to get help from friends, family, counselors, and clergy. Although I loved him with all my heart, I felt unseen, unattractive and miserable; I hit rock-bottom.

Then we learned he was autistic, and I thought learning this diagnosis was the key to change. For the next 10 years, I fiercely became educated in everything about autism and relationships with autistic men, even completing a master’s level education about improving behaviors using learning theory. Suddenly, I had hope and knew if we worked as a team with him putting in effort, everything would turn out as I desired.

Unfortunately, nothing changed. We could not get out of the groove we had gotten stuck in. The pain, loneliness, frustration, and anger continued. Even though he was the father to my autistic son, I knew the marriage was detrimental to my mental and physical health.I had to put myself first. I spent years on intensive work in neuroscience, psychology, and human behavior to learn how to become alive again. After 25 years together, I made the heartbreaking decision to get divorced. I was able to leave, feeling empowered, complete, and at peace because I had found the skills to let go of the anger and resentment. Let me take you through your journey to experience your inner transformation, so you can stop asking the question, “What would life be like if I could feel more fulfilled in my marriage?”

What I Do:

As an Empowerment and Clarity Coach, I help women in relationships with autistic men rediscover themselves, understand their true desires, and create a life they enjoy so that they can find peace and clarity about their relationship.

Being with an autistic man is a unique and complex experience. Communication and intimacy can be very different from typical relationships. Combining these challenges with our own past experiences can make the relationship very confusing.

Our thoughts and beliefs shape our lives. If we don’t change how we think, our lives won’t change either. Imagine feeling more joy and contentment no matter what your situation is.

This program is NOT about him, changing him or berating him. It is about YOU and you thriving- not how things are your fault. You are in a situation where I know you want the best for everyone involved.

This course is for the strong, tenacious woman who is committed to her life being fulfilling and is willing to do the internal work to achieve it.

How can my background in neuroscience and behavior analysis help you in your relationship?

My training allows me to understand the complex dynamics of the brain to guide you to see how your thoughts determine your behaviors and responses. My knowledge of having a partner on the autism spectrum provides you with an empathetic and compassionate coach who understands your unique situation. We’ll use this knowledge to discover what is happening with YOU in your relationship, to be less reactive to your partner’s behaviors, and address your feelings of being adrift.

I often feel lonely in my relationship. How can coaching help me with this?

Feeling lonely and unseen is a common challenge in such relationships. My supportive coaching program will address this by helping you build a stronger emotional connection with yourself. Additionally, you will learn strategies that help you reclaim your individuality and thrive within your relationship.

What if I'm considering ending my relationship?

Deciding to leave a relationship is a significant and personal decision. Loving Autistic Men coaching will have you explore all aspects of you and your relationship, assessing the sustainability and happiness it brings you. I’ll support you in understanding your needs and wants, ensuring your decision to stay or leave is made with confidence and clarity.
